Family life is not always easy, is it? You are either busy working full time, or raising a family, maybe you don't even have enough time to make sure you and your family get the right nutrition, let alone the best, and do you have an extra 5-6 hours per week?? I certainly don't, BUT did you know that you don't need to?

I'd been hearing a lot about eating organic, eating more vegetables and fruit; and then I went to the supermarket. The non-organic vegetables and fruit taste awful and have little or no nutritional content, the organic veg and fruit taste good, but are way over priced and perish quickly. Do you know why? I found out that all the fruit and veg in supermarkets, even grocers, have had a journey before they got to the shop, then time on the shelf, by the time I've taken them home, they are already close to being old, and that means most of the vitamins and nutrients are depleted or gone. So what could I do?

I was stumped UNTIL I Had A Brilliant Idea

Why don't I grow my vegetables at home?

I don't have the biggest of gardens but I have windowsills and could use pots? Couldn't I?

My friends laughed in my face, I had just had a new baby by C-section so lots of heavy labour in the garden was out of the question, also, I'm sure any new mum knows that there is precious little time available when you have a new born and even less when children get older.

Not that it would have been easier if I was still working, I used to start my day at 6:30am and by the time I commuted and got home it was 7:30pm and I was shattered....

....any of this starting to sound familiar?!

So after thinking about it a lot, I gave up on the idea of growing my own vegetables, I continued to buy my veg from the market and even switched to organic so that it was as healthy as it could be.

The price of my shopping sky rocketed as organic veg is about double the price of normal veg and I was wasting loads of it as it went off quicker than I could eat it.

So when my little girl reached 8 months, she was ready for normal food, and shopping got even more expensive. I reconsidered the idea of growing my own vegetables and started to do some research to see if I could grow my own vegetables, now I thought I could get a book, or go online and find lots of easy information, but spent hours and days looking for what, how, when and exactly a beginner could do which didn't require hours a week in the garden and lots of space for growing.

It was hard work finding any useful , jargon free help or information, even so called beginners information was full of terms such as "mulch", "tea water", "bi-annual", "perennial", "early's"....huh!!!! OK, so some of those I could work out but no mention of what the others were.....

....also most information claimed you had to prepare for about 2 months before getting anything out!!!!!

I wanted home grown quicker than 2 months!!

I was however not to be put off this time, I knew some of my mum friends were already growing their own vegetables easily, some of them had little to no garden space, and 3 children to deal with, if they could do it without prior gardening experience surely I could do it !!!

So I contacted all those really successful mum friends I know, who have managed to balance time with their family, time at work and time at home as well as leaving some vital time for themselves

(these are mums who have not had to employ others to help out either and are NOT supermum!!)

I wanted to stay organic, it took a few weeks before I found an expert organic gardener who was willing to share with me the secret organic method to get rid of these flys easily, I tried it and it worked !!! I then had a full crop of cauliflowers which I had almost lost...whew !!! I also learnt how o get rid of red ant, slugs and cabbage butterflies in a humane and organic way so my crops were safe.

At this point, my other mum friends were starting to ask me to show them how to get the results I was getting in my vegetable patch and pots and they were going home from tea at my house with a bundle of fresh vegetables because of just how many vegetables I had coming through.
